There are many myths about water softening. Since people do not have the exact idea of how water softeners work. They sometimes get it wrong. Here are some of the myths about the process of water softening:

Myth # 1: You cannot drink water directly from the softener

Many people believe that the water softener contains a high concentration of sodium chloride. But this is not true, because very less sodium chloride is present in the softener. If you have an apartment size water softener, it is completely safe to drink water directly from it.

Myth # 2: Soft water does not the rinse off the soap from your skin

People believe that soft water leaves a film of soap on your body and does not wash it properly. But soft water is completely clean for your skin. The minerals in hard water clog your pores. But soft water does not do so. It might give you the sensation of slippery skin after a bath, which is completely normal.

Myth # 3: Water softeners waste salt

People believe that an apartment size water softener wastes salt, but it does not. It requires very less amount of salt for the softening process.

Myth # 4: Water softeners are expensive

This is a common myth that water softeners are very expensive to purchase and to operate. But this is the only appliance which can save money if you use it. Softened water will require less soap and other detergents to work. And it does not require much heating. This gradually saves your money.

Myth # 5: Water softeners can work without salt

It is true that some water treatment systems do not require salt, but the actual softeners required them. It will not provide the same quality of softened water. Your water softener for apartment building will work best with salts.

Myth # 6: Softened water restricts the minerals which your body needs

Water softeners do not restrict calcium, magnesium, and iron. You will have plenty of regular access to these minerals in your diet. You do not need them in water. So, there is nothing to be worried about.

Myth # 7: Softeners use too much salt

Even an apartment size water softener will not use too much salt. The most effective water softener uses very less salt to remove the hard minerals from the water. The amount of salt which it requires is not high. You will not have to worry about using too much salt.

Myth # 8: The amount of salt in your softened water is unhealthy

Since the softener does not use too much salt, the amount of it present in the softened water is not unhealthy. It will not have any negative impact on your body. But it also depends on how hard the water is. It will determine the amount of salt required for softening.

Myth # 9: Water softeners purify water

Water softening and water purification are two different processes. Water softeners only reduce the hardness of water by removing minerals and metals. Whereas purification means the removal of all types of contaminants. Even the soft water can contain contaminants which can only be removed by purification.
